Toronto – SOCAN members and Canadian music organizations can now apply to for financial assistance under two new grant programs, introduced as part of the SOCAN Foundation’s vision to foster creativity, support, and expand artist and publisher opportunities for global exposure and strengthen its ties to the music community.

The grants are in two categories: a program for the presentation and dissemination of Canadian music in all genres, and a travel assistance program for music creators and music publishers.

The SOCAN Foundation is currently accepting submissions for the new presentation and dissemination of Canadian music grant program. Eligible applicants include collectives and organizations that curate initiatives in the form of live presentation, educational projects, publications, and other projects that foster Canadian music.

The new travel assistance program will support a variety of travel-related costs, both in Canada and abroad, giving emerging music creators and music publishers the opportunity to participate in ventures otherwise unattainable.

The next deadline for the presentation and dissemination program is Sept. 15, 2017 while the travel assistance program has an ongoing deadline. Grant applications currently being received at www.socanfoundation.ca. The SOCAN Foundation’s new website and improved application portal make it even easier for applicants to submit.

“It’s incredibly encouraging to see the SOCAN Foundation working with us and for us,” said songwriter Laurent Bourque. “These new programs will undoubtedly help promote Canadian music and its creators even more.”

“The SOCAN Foundation has worked tirelessly to transform itself,” said Charlie Wall-Andrews, SOCAN Foundation Director. “The new granting programs, submission processes, and user-friendly website will ensure that we’re more accessible, and philanthropically innovative, while maximizing our resources, in order to have a greater impact within the communities we serve.”

Later this year, the Foundation will launch new programs designed to help mid-career music creators.
